In addition to heading up WBTP (95.7 the Beat)/Tampa's mix show department and mixing on-air, DJ Ekin has launched ConnXions, his non-profit organization. The motto is "Building relationships one handshake at a time," and the organization's primary purpose is to educate teens and young adults from the ages of 14-21 on the importance of networking. ConnXions also aims to provide scholarships, and Ekin says, "I just want to give these kids a chance the way someone gave me a chance."
On May 21, ConnXions will bring Atlantic Records recording artist Maino to two local high schools to discuss how he's turned the negatives in his life to positives. The organization has also brought Bow Wow, T.I., Mims, Javon Black and Bobby Valentino to the Tampa Bay area to speak with the youth.
"A lot of times people only see the negative things that people do or they don't really know the positive things," explains Valentino. "Me and Ekin hooking up ... we are doing some positive things in the community."
