Kirk Franklin won two Grammy awards last night, for best Gospel song ("Help Me Believe") and best contemporary Gospel album ("The Fight of My Life"). They were his sixth and seventh career Grammy awards.
TobyMac picked up his first solo Grammy for best rock or rap Gospel album ("Alive and Transported"). He is on the Winter Jam tour and wasn't able to attend the ceremony, but said, "I still can't believe it, truly humbling. My band and I worked hard on this project and it really is the culmination of diverse people collaborating."
Other Gospel Grammy winners include Mary Mary's "Get Up" for best Gospel performance; CeCe Winans' "Thy Kingdom Come" for best pop contemporary Gospel album; "Lovin' Life" by the Gaither Vocal Band for best southern, country or bluegrass Gospel album; and the Blind Boys of Alabama's "Down In New Orleans" for best traditional Gospel album.
The Grammy awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS.
