The demise of smooth jazz WJZZ/Atlanta late last month has led Radio One/Atlanta to make some major moves with some of its other properties. The gold-based R&B WUMJ Majic 107.5 "Atlanta’s Best Mix of R & B," which debuted on Jan. 28 and replaced WJZZ is now heard as a simulcast on 97.5, replacing gospel WPZE (Praise 97.5). The gospel format remains in the market with double the reach to African-American households in the metro, and it can now be heard on 102.5.
Radio One/Atlanta VP/GM Tim Davies explains, "This allows our cluster to be the predominate Urban Media Specialists in the Atlanta market. We now have three of the strongest brands reaching the entire African-American community with [urban] WHTA (Hot 107.9), WPZE (Praise 102.5) and WAMJ/WUMJ (the new Majic 107.5 and 97.5.)"
The "Grown Folks Radio" moniker is no longer being used on WAMJ/WUMJ, but the "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" and the afternoon program "The Michael Baisden Show," which were previously heard on WAMJ, are airing on the simulcast.
