Big Machine star Taylor Swift notches the first "country crossover" No. 1 at CHR/Top 40 in the Nielsen BDS-based chart's 16-year history, as "Love Story," promoted to pop radio by Universal Republic, rises 3-1.
Among country hits, "Story" had been tied for highest CHR/Top 40 peak with Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" (No. 3, 1998).
"Story" marks Swift's first No. 1 outside of Country, where the song led for two weeks in November. She has also topped the format with "Our Song" and "Should've Said No." "Story" concurrently claims Most Increased Plays (up 169) at Hot AC, where the song ranks at No. 5. Her "White Horse" trots 10-9 at Country.
The 19-year-old Swift's sophomore album "Fearless" has sold more than 2.5 million copies since its release in November, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is one of just five albums this decade to spend at least eight weeks atop the Billboard 200 album chart and the first by a solo female in 13 years to hold down the top spot for such a length. Swift's self-titled debut set, released in 2006, has moved 3.9 million units.
The singer has announced her upcoming 52-city, seven-month headlining tour. She set a venue record for quickest sellout in the history of Los Angeles' Staples Center for her May 22 date, selling every ticket in just two minutes.
